A toddler is in critical condition Thursday after he nearly drowned in an above ground pool.
Pasquotank County Deputies said it happened Tuesday evening at a home on Matthews Drive.
A gate was left open, and a 21-month-old boy wandered onto the deck and fell into a pool, which had a cover on it.
Deputies said rain accumulated on the top of the deck.
The boy's father found the child, who was not breathing, pulled him out and started doing CPR.
The child was taken to Albemarle Hospital and stabilized.
Deputies said the boy remains in critical condition and no charges have been filed.
