Freezing pipes will be a big concern for many Eastern Carolina homeowners as temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-teens Tuesday and stay below freezing for a day and a half.
Un-insulated pipes can freeze when it gets around 20 degrees.
Experts say you should try and seal all openings where cold air may get to the pipes, such as in your home's crawl space. It's also a good idea to disconnect all outside garden hoses from their spigots.
If your home isn't well insulated, you may consider leaving a small stream of water running from an inside faucet.
It also might be a good idea to locate the main cutoff valve for your home now, just in case there's a water leak Tuesday or Wednesday.
