Teen Pilot Aiming For Record Found Dead In Plane Crash, Father Missing

(NBC News) An Indiana teen who was trying to become the youngest to fly around the world in 30 days in a single engine plane died Wednesday in a crash off the coast of American Samoa.

17 year old Haris Suleman's body has been recovered.

The father and son team took off on their journey in mid-June to raise awareness and money for the Citizens Foundation.

"It was for a noble cause, it was for building schools, for kids in impoverished communities," explained Azher Khan, a family friend.

The pair was able to raise more than half a million dollars for the cause along the way.

According to the Suleman family, the plane's black box has not been recovered but investigators are able to hear its emergency pings.
