A teacher in Onslow County is now charged with solicitation of a child by a computer or other electronic device.
Police say 36-year-old John Tobias Sweeney of Jacksonville was a teacher at Southwest Onslow High School.
School officials say Sweeney had been with the school system for 14 years. He had been teaching English at Southwest High School since 2006, where he was also the soccer coach. Prior to that, he taught at New Bridge Middle School.
School officials also report Sweeney resigned his position effective immediately.
The sheriff's office reports the child was 13 years old and lives out of state.
He was locked up under a $10,000 secured bond.
The Onslow County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the FBI.
Officials say Sweeney was arrested at his home without incident early Thursday morning.
