Update: Wilson Man Identified In An Early Morning Crash

Troopers identified the 30-year-old man killed in a car crash in Wilson Thursday morning.

Trooper Charles Purvis, out of the Wilson County Highway Patrol Office says, Craig Gause was traveling on Elm City Road in Wilson just after 1:00am, when he crashed into a utility pole.

Gause, who is from Wilson, died on the scene according to Purvis.

Purvis says, Gause was driving a 2008 Kia above the posted speed limit of 65 miles per hour, veered off to the left, back onto the roadway, and again off to the right where he hit a utility pole.

Trooper Purvis says speed is the contributing factor in this accident.

Troopers said a 30-year-old man died on a Wilson road early Thursday morning.

Trooper C. Purvis told WITN around 1:12 a.m., he got the call to Elm City Road in Wilson.

Trpr. Purvis said the name of the victim is not yet being released.

Investigators said the man was driving faster than the 65 miles per hour posted on the road when he veered off to the left, back onto the roadway, and again off to the right where he hit a utility pole.

Troopers said the driver died on the scene.

Trpr. Purivs said at this point, he does not believe alcohol was a factor, but speed may have been a factor in the fatal wreck.

The investigation continues.
