The rash of robberies at Internet cafes in Eastern Carolina became violent this morning with a shooting at one business.
Greenville police say just after 5:00 a.m. officers responded to the report of an armed robbery in progress at the H&L Business Center on Evans Street.
Police tell us the store manager reported two men dressed in all black and wearing masks came into the business, one with a handgun, the other with a shotgun.
The manger told police when one gunman jumped over the cash counter, he reached for his own weapon. The manager fired twice, and the men took off toward the railroad tracks and East 14th Street.
No injuries were reported.
Police said both their major crimes and forensics units are currently working the case. No word yet on if anything was stolen from the business or the identities of those robbers.
There has been a rash of similar hold-ups in the east including several in Greenville and Pitt County. Others have been reported in Lenoir, Martin and Onslow Counties. Deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office recently announced the counties are teaming up and comparing notes on these cases as they try to catch the robbers.
