Student Found With Unloaded Gun At Private Duplin County School

An unloaded gun has been found at a private school, as classes just started on Monday.

Principal Neil Edwards says a senior at Champion Educational Center in Beulaville was taken away in handcuffs by Duplin County deputies this morning.

Edwards says students first saw the gun in the boy's waist band of his pants. The principal says the student later moved the gun to a pocket, and then to his shoe.

At last check, no charges had been filed against the student.

The principal says this was only the student's second day of classes at Champion, having transferred from East Duplin High School.
