With heat index values soaring past the century mark, people across the area sought ways to beat the heat Thursday.
The heat index topped 103 degrees in Kinston as hundreds of people lined up to visit the Lion's Water Adventure Park.
Gates opened to the public at 11:30 in the morning, and staff at the park estimated that there were already 300 people in line.
The park's three large water slides were a big hit with the kids.
Others took to the lazy river and just enjoyed chilling out.
The park also has several kids play pools that proved popular for both parents and little ones.
Kinston mom Molly Barnard has six boys and says the park is a great way for them to burn some energy and beat the heat.
