State Deputy Shoots 2nd As Dog Atacks Inside Home

A North Carolina deputy responding to a domestic dispute was accidentally shot in the leg by another officer trying to stop an attacking pit bull inside a mobile home.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Saturday (http://avlne.ws/TJWHWO ) that Deputy Nathan Sutton was shot in the leg just above the ankle. Haywood County Sheriff Bobby Suttles said it's unclear whether the bullet was a direct hit or ricocheted. Sutton was treated at a hospital and released.

Deputies responded after a woman reported her boyfriend tried to run her over with a car outside their home in Clyde. Suttles says deputies were attacked by the dog as they entered the couple's home and fired at least five times.

The sheriff said it's unclear whether the dog was shot because it ran from the home.
