Overflow Dumps 1,500 Gallons Of Wastewater Into Tar River

Greenville Utilities has reported a wastewater spill that was discovered around 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

Debris in a sewer line caused an overflow at a manhole on West 5th Street near Elizabeth Street.

As a result, approximately 1,500 gallons of wastewater spilled into the Tar River.

GUC says it responded immediately to clear the blockage, successfully ending the spill by 2:00 p.m.

The area adjacent to the manhole was treated with a chlorine solution.

In accordance with regulatory requirements, the Division of Water Quality was notified of the spill.
