A local sheriff's office is joining the fight to save victims of prescription drug overdose.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is the first law enforcement agency in the state to use the program called the Narcan Initiative.
The Narcan Initiative involves the deployment of Naloxone to all first responders.
The purpose of the program is to reduce deaths associated with opioid overdose by using nasal narcan, which temporarily reverses the overdose.
The sheriff's office will announce the new program 10 a.m. Thursday at Bell Arthur EMS in Greenville.
