A misdemeanor assault and battery charge has been dropped against a Northampton County sheriff's investigator who was charged while working security at a nightclub.

The lawyer for Det. Lynette Clements told The Daily Herald of Roanoke Rapids that the charge against the officer was dropped last week.

Attorney Jamal Summey says Clements returned to her job at the sheriff's office after she was cleared. She was on leave while the charge was pending.

Summey says Clements was falsely accused of assault by a woman she was trying to kick out of the nightclub.
