A Carteret County woman is feeling pretty lucky as she just missed being injured during Wednesday's tornado.
Sylvia Wheatly lives on Tuttles Grove Road in Beaufort in Carteret County, where the national weather service says a tornado with 90 mile per hour winds touched down Wednesday afternoon. She was sitting in her living room when she heard a noise, and the next thing she knew, pieces of her fence in her backyard crashed through her window.
"It was so fast I did not see it. It was the noise that caused me to have the reaction to put my arms up, because I could hear the crash of the glass," said Beaufort Resident Sylvia Wheatly.
Fortunately she was okay. Her Christmas tree blocked the fencing from hitting her. She said she was glad everyone else in the area appeared to be okay and just had a lot of cleaning up to do.
Other areas of Carteret County also experienced some storm damage. A roof collapsed on a barn in Morehead City off Country Club Road leaving tiles and wooden debris all over the ground.

The National Weather Service in Newport has confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in Carteret County north of Beaufort Wednesday afternoon. Winds are estimated to have reached 90mph. The path of the tornado was 100 yards wide and the path extended 1/4 of a mile.

National Weather Service teams are headed to spots in Carteret County to see if a possible tornado touched down.
In the North River area of Carteret county, there are reports of a roof damaged and trees snapped off. There are reports of damage to a house and powerlines down.
An estimate suggests winds in that area may have topped 100 miles per hour.
NWS crews are also checking out spots in Atlantic Beach and Beaufort.
There is also a report in Atlantic Beach of a life guard stand blown down, shingles off house and a roof torn off a shack.
No injuries have been reported.

ONSLOW COUNTY
Onslow 911 reported a waterspout over New River near Camp Lejeune about 11:35 a.m.
Onslow County 911 also reported numerous calls reporting a funnel cloud near Highways 258 and 53, about two miles west of Jacksonville also about 11:35 a.m.
A Bear Creek volunteer fire department spotted a funnel cloud form then dissipate on Sandridge Road around 11:45 a.m.
NEW HANOVER
Funnel cloud just south of Kure Beach about 9:48 a.m. Reports of garbage cans blown around.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY
62 MPH wind gust measured by Cape Fear Pilots Association near Southport.
