SHERIFF: Firefighter, Reserve Deputy Charged With Sharing Child Porn

Deputies said an investigation counties away lead them to a Kinston fire captain's home where they found evidence of that man sharing child pornography.

Lenoir County Sheriff Chris Hill said his office was contact by investigators in the Wilmington office of the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement about a case of minor being exploited over the internet.

Deputies said an IP address was tracked to 4595 Braxton Road in Grifton.

Investigators said once they got a search warrant for the home, they immediately identified the home-owner as a suspect in the case: Thomas Taylor Sr.

Hill said Taylor is a firefighter with the Kinston Department of Public Safety and a sworn reserve deputy with the Greene County Sheriff's Office.

The city says Taylor is a captain with their fire department and has 26 years of service. He's now on administrative leave with the city.

Investigators said they contacted Taylor at work to return home, and the man tossed a laptop into a creek near Highway 58 in Kinston on his way home.

Deputies said they have recovered the laptop and it is now being processed as evidence in the case.

In a press release from the Lenoir County Sheriff's office, investigators said they discovered, "Taylor had recorded footage of a victim who was being exploited utilizing the internet. It is believed that the victim had no knowledge of the recordings."

Taylor was charged with two felony counts: possessing photograph image device for peeping and secretly using/installing photographic image device for peeping. He was put in the Lenoir County Detention center under a $35,000 bond.

Detectives said a federal investigation is pending and more charges will likely follow.
