It might appear that your bank may be contacting you, but before answering that text be wary. Scammers are claiming to be employees from banks to access your personal information.
Recently, several people in our state reported they have received a text message from what appeared to be a person from Southern Bank. In that text is a number for the person to call in regards to their bank account having a problem.
When the number is called, a recording asks the person for sensitive information such as their bank card number and their PIN, so that the PIN or password can be altered.
This is a scam. No bank will text you and ask for personal information as such. If you are contacted by text, email, or voicemail from anyone claiming to be from Southern Bank, or any other financial institution, and they request your account information, do not give it to them.
Report any suspicious requests for banking information to your bank, or local authorities.
