Residents To Vote On Numerous Onslow County Election Issues

A long-time sheriff is going up against a candidate with dozens of years of experience in law enforcement. The two candidates recently made headlines for a controversial phone call made by the sheriff and recorded by his opponent.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown has been in office 24 years. His opponent, Hans Miller, served 26 years as a Marine and is a retired Provost Marshal of Marine Corps Air Station New River. Miller was an SBI agent for 12 years and was once an Onslow County deputy sheriff.

Sheriff Brown was a Jacksonville Police Officer for 13 years and served as deputy chief, and was the commander of the swat team at one time. He first ran for sheriff at the age of 45 in 1990 and has been in the position ever since.

On the Republican ballot, there's a race for Clerk of Superior Court. There are also 4 candidates running for 3 seats up for grabs for the Onslow County Board of Education.
