The North Carolina General Assembly is coming back to work, and this time legislators will be in Raleigh for a while.

The House and Senate reconvene Wednesday three weeks after they met for one day to elect leaders and take oaths of office for the next two years.

Now the 170 lawmakers are expected to gather four days a week or longer probably until June.

Majorities in the legislature are more Republican than they were two years ago, and new GOP Gov. Pat McCrory now resides in the Executive Mansion, so vetoes are likely to be rare compared to former Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue.

Legislative leaders say they want to improve public education, scale back regulations and overhaul the tax system in part through lower income tax rates.
