FIRST ON WITN: Search Continues For Trio After Man Shot In Pink Hill Camper

Police said an early morning call of a shooting has turned into a search for a trio of armed and dangerous men who shot a Pink Hill man in his camper.

Pink Hill Police Chief Joey Thigpen tells WITN officers were called to 503 Pineview Avenue at 2:44 a.m. Wednesday for a shooting.

Investigators said they arrived to find a man, 45-year-old Darryl Mitchell, suffering from a gunshot, saying three men had stormed into his camper.

Chief Thigpen said Mitchell had to be airlifted to Vidant Medical Center.

Family members tell WITN Mitchell was shot once, injuring his shoulder and side, and has since been released from the hospital after having a bullet removed.

Officers say before being taken to the hospital, Mitchell was able to tell them the three men had their faces covered. Police say the trio apparently had handguns.

Police said they could not tell if anything had been taken from the home, and the victim was not able to tell them if the gunmen made off with anything after shooting him.

Chief Thigpen said they know the men took off toward Duplin County in a four-door, small car that may have been burgundy in color.

If you have any information that may help police find the three men, you are asked to call Pink Hill police at (252) 568-4102.
