Police have arrested a registered sex offender after they say he met a 15-year-old Greenville girl on the Internet and had sex with her.
William Ayers IV was arrested today at his Johnston County home by the Greenville Police Department's Special Victims Unit and the SBI. The 37-year-old man is charged with statutory rape, kidnapping, and first degree sex offense.
Detectives believe after meeting the girl on the Internet, Ayers took her on some 20 different occasions to locations in Greenville, Raleigh and in Johnson County where they engaged in sexual acts. Police say those took place between August and November of 2012.
Ayers is in the Pitt County jail on a $1,000,000 secured bond.
The North Carolina Sex Offender Registry says Ayers was convicted of sexual battery in Wake County in 2009 and was placed on probation.
