Police Say NC Man Hid In Assault Victim's Closet

Authorities in Iredell County say a 27-year-old man turned himself in to sheriff's deputies after investigators say he hid in a teenage girl's closet for five days and had sex with her.

The sheriff's office said Jarred Ashley Workman is facing 11 counts of statutory rape and five counts of statutory sex offense. Workman is being held in the Iredell County jail on a $1 million bond. His court-appointed attorney, Ken Darty, was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday.

Sheriff's Lt. Bill Hamby said the two met online, adding that the girl arranged to meet the man near her parents' house in late April. Investigators said once they met, the girl invited the man into the house.

On May 2, the girl's mother discovered the man in the closet.
