New Police Chief Sworn In At ECU

A former New Jersey police officer is making a home in the east where he was sworn in Thursday as the new East Carolina University police chief.

Gerald Lewis came to Greenville from New Jersey where he spent 26 years with the New Jersey State Police before retiring in December.

The chief said it's most important for him to make students, staff and visitors feel like the campus is a safe and comfortable environment.

Lewis came aboard the ECU Police Department in January and had to go through North Carolina law enforcement certification.
