Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks is weighing in on the ongoing gun debate and possible new restrictions.
The sheriff posted Monday afternoon on the Pitt County Sheriff Facebook page that many people have been asking his stance regarding the president's gun control plan. Elks wrote he does not support infringements on the rights given to law-abiding citizens provided by our country's constitution, nor does he believe that encroachments offer solutions to these firearm concerns. He says the weapon used is not the origin of our nation's incidents involving firearms, and the responsibility for these actions solely rests on the violent and disturbed people doing the shooting.
The sheriff also says none of the presidents proposals require or recommend any action by sheriffs or other local or state law enforcement officers that would violate the second or fourth amendment or any other provision of the United States constitution.
