Pitt County Family Stays Positive After Tornado Destroys Home

Before the tornado made its way to Beaufort County, it first went through Pitt County as an EF-2.

The twister ended up plowing straight through the area of Chicod on Black Jack Simpson Road. At least three mobile homes were damaged or destroyed.

The McLawhorn's double-wide trailer ended up with large tree limbs through its roof. A tree limb also crushed the bed of their brand new Chevy Silverado.

Despite the damage, Kim and Randy McLawhorn are still looking on the bright side. They're alive and strangers have provided money and a camper for them to live in behind their home.

Randy says he knows there is potential for more severe weather, which could leave them even more vulnerable.

"I'm scared to death," he says. "But I'll watch things a lot closer and make arrangements to be somewhere different than what I did last time."

The McLawhorn's say they do have insurance and plan to rebuild.
