Pitt County Animal Shelter: Repairs Complete, More Room For Pets

The Pitt County Animal Shelter can take in more dogs and cats now that renovations are complete.

The shelter off County Home Road failed it's annual state inspection in March because of chipped paint and rusted grates and bowls. Animal Control Manager Michelle Whaley says it was the first time that had ever happened.

The repairs took about 3 weeks and cost more than $30,000. County tax dollars paid for the renovations. During that time, the shelter was forced to limit its number of dog cages from 25 to just 8. Whaley says an inspector will review the facility next week.
