Persistent Winds Cause Rivers To Recede Along ENC Coast

We've received several photos from viewers showing receded waters along our coast and rivers. Chief Meteorologist Marvin Daugherty says persistent strong winds today are pushing rivers out to sea and leaving beaches exposed.

Daugherty says the west wind blows the water out toward the ocean basically leaving beaches empty. Sustained winds above 20-25 miles an hour are enough force to make rivers recede. Water is blowing east and leaving beaches in Chowan and Beaufort County exposed along the Chowan and Pamlico Rivers.
