North Carolina rates their school bus inspections similar to golf scores: the lower the number, the better.
So when Pamlico County schools received a score of 11, the school system's Transportation Department was recognized as having the best rating in Eastern North Carolina.
It's the second time in seven years that the department has been honored with this award.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction inspects 10% of the yellow bus fleet, including maintenance records and other reports to come up with a rating. A perfect score would be 0.
