POLICE: Repeat Offender Tried To Swallow Drugs

Greenville police arrested a man they say tried to swallow drugs when officers went to arrest him.

Members of the Greenville Police IMPACT Team noticed 35-year-old Tavaris Thomas walking between houses in Hopkins Park at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police say Thomas is a repeat offender known to police, who is banned from Housing Authority property. As officers tried to arrest Thomas, police say he tried to swallow nearly two bundles of heroin and throw down another package.

Police say they recovered 15 doses of heroin, along with a substance that was later determined to be Methamphetamine.

Thomas is now charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest and 2nd Degree Trespassing.

His bond was set at $100,000.
