POLICE: New Bern Man Arrested After Barricading Himself Inside Home

A man is behind bars after police say he barricaded himself inside a home in New Bern.

New Bern Police say that they received a report of a domestic incident near the 400 block of Craven Street. Officers say they arrived on scene and tried to check on the welfare of 28-year-old Ute Dorflinger of Matthews. According to investigators, 28-year-old Matthew Smith of 416B Craven Street, refused to cooperate with police and barricaded himself inside the residence along with Dorflinger.

Officials say Smith was eventually arrested for assault on a female, as well as resisting obstructing, and delaying.

Smith is being held in the Craven County Jail on a $200,000 secured bond
