POLICE: Man Leads Jacksonville Officers On Motorcycle Chase Before Crashing

Police say a man is behind bars after they say he tried to get away on a stolen motorcycle.

Jacksonville Police say that 22-year-old Justin Pickett of Chinquapin has been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, and motorcycle helmet violation among several other related charges.

Police say they responded to the Charleston Place apartments around 2:49 a.m. Sunday for a report of a motorcycle theft in progress. Officers say they saw the motorcycle matching the description at the intersection of Western Boulevard and US-17 and broadcasted a description of the vehicle and driver.

Police say the chase began on US-17 and Onslow Drive and ended up on US-258. The Highway Patrol joined in pursuit as well.

Officers say Pickett removed his helmet during the chase and threw it at a police vehicle causing minor damage.

Officials say Pickett intentionally crashed the motorcycle in the roadway, where it rolled to a stop and the suspect slid off.

Pickett was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he was treated and released to Jacksonville Police.
