POLICE: Driver Caught After 80MPH Chase Through Wilson County

Officers said an early morning chase across a county line landed a local man in jail for the weekend.

Police in the Wilson County city of Stantonsburg said Officer Best tried pulling a man over around 2:30 Saturday morning.

When the driver of the suspicious car tried hitting the officer's patrol car along Sand Pit Road, police said the chase started.

From Sand Pit Road to Highway 58, officer said speeds topped out at 80 miles per hour before Michael Beamon was arrested at his home along Nahunta Road in Greene County.

Beamon is now charged with fleeing to elude arrest, driving with a revoked license, and careless and reckless driving according to investigators.
