POLICE: Cosmetics Crook Nabbed, Already In Jail

A Greenville woman who was already in jail on dozens of larceny and drug charges, has been identified by lawmen as the woman who stole thousands of dollars in merchandise from a Jacksonville cosmetic store.

Court records say the woman was charged with stealing from another Ulta location earlier this year.

Jacksonville police put out the picture of the woman wanted in the theft from the Ulta store at the Jacksonville Mall Tuesday, and within minutes they say someone identified her thanks to television station websites, including witn.com.

Hope Atkinson is charged with felony larceny of approximately $2,000 in items from the store. The 46-year-old woman was first arrested on Sunday by Greenville police on 44 counts of possession of counterfeit instrument, possession of stolen goods, felony possession of Oxycodone and larceny by anti-inventory device.

When Jacksonville police posted her photo with hopes of someone identifying her, the woman was already in the Pitt County jail.

Atkinston is listed on the Greenville police report as unemployed. Her bond was set at $225,000.

Court records show the woman is accused of stealing merchandise from the Greenville Best Buy and TJ Maxx on Black Friday, while in January she was charged with stealing from the Greenvile Ulta location, as well as from Sams Club and Wilco Hess.
