A heavily traveled highway in Beaufort County will be closed for the next several hours as crews work to remove an overturned tractor trailer.

The Highway Patrol says the wreck happened on U.S. 264, east of Belhaven around 9:15 a.m.

They say the flatbed truck was carrying a post driver used for bridge building and apparently went around a curve a little too fast and its cargo shifted.

The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and troopers say he will be charged with driving left of center. Other charges are pending, according to the Highway Patrol.

One lane of the highway at Mile Road was closed for about 90 minutes because of rescue workers, while both lanes will have to be closed so tow trucks can remove the overturned flatbed.
