Onslow's Southwest High School Closes After Power Loss

Students at one Onslow County high school got out of class early thanks to a power outage.

Southwest High School dismissed students at 10:45 a.m.

A school system spokeswoman says they lost power around 9:00 a.m. Several other schools in the area also lost partial power, but were able to continue with classes. Those were Southwest Elementary, Blue Creek Elementary, Clyde Erwin, and Southwest Middle schools.

Since students only missed a half day, students will not have to make up the day later.

A blown out transformer caused the outage, according to the school system.
