An Onslow County highway patrolman responding to one wreck found himself in a wreck of his own.
Trooper Alvarado told WITN he was on his way to a wreck just before 6 p.m. Monday along Highway 258.
Trp. Alvarado said traffic was significantly backed up, and with his blue lights on, he got in the turn lane to get to a wreck as quickly as possible.
While driving in that lane, Trp. Alvarado said a seemingly impatient driver made a u-turn directly in the path of the oncoming patrol car near Blue Creek Road, and the two collided.
The driver who turned was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but neither he nor Trooper Alvarado were hurt.
Both reportedly had minor damage to their vehicles.
The name of the driver had not been released, but we know he was cited for an unsafe movement.
Another patrolman dealt with the wreck Trp. Alvarado was originally responding to before his own incident.
