The SBI has released the names of those involved in Monday's deputy-involved fatal shooting in Edgecombe County.
Spokeswoman Noelle Talley says Kenneth Todd was fatally shot by Deputy Darrick Winders shortly after 4:00 p.m.
It happened on Highway 258 in Macclesfield after Winders responded to a domestic disturbance.
The sheriff's office says Todd charged the deputy with a weapon. After failing to obey the deputy's command, Todd was shot. The 41-year-old man died at the scene.
The SBI was asked to investigate the shooting, which is normal practice in law enforcement shootings.
A person was fatally shot Monday afternoon and the SBI has been called in to investigate.
