Two people are at a hospital in the east after being airlifted by the Coast Guard off our state’s coast.
Coast Guard officials say that 25-year-old man and 60-year-old woman were airlifted off of a cruise ship Sunday morning. The ship was around 135 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras.
Officials were notified on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. about the sick patrons aboard the Carnival Splendor, a 950-foot cruise ship. The Coast Guard requested the ship come closer to the coast, as it was about 410 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras.
The passengers were taken by a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
The passengers are reportedly in stable condition.
Officials did not say what the passengers were ill with.
