Officer Given Warning, Additional Training After Gun Misfires

A police officer will receive additional training after police say his gun accidentally went off, missing another officer and hitting his cruiser.

Emerald Isle police say Nick Blayney was off-duty when he tried to put his personal gun back in his holster on December 18th. The bullet missed the officer Blayney was speaking with, but struck the officer's vehicle.

Police say Blayney, who is a part-time member of the town's beach management team, was given a disciplinary warning and will undergo remedial training.
