New Project Collects Leftover Food From Emerald Isle Vacationers

A new program in Emerald Isle aims to help feed the hungry while giving departing vacationers a place to get rid of their leftover food without throwing it away.

A Second Helping-Emerald Isle accepts canned goods, foodstuffs, perishables, non-perishables and will even take your open containers.

Robin Wolkofsky drove down from Charlotte to spend a week at the Crystal Coast with her family. She says, "I think It's great. If we had somewhere to drop off our food, I think that's absolutely what we would do on our way off the island."

There are two food drop-off locations from 7:00 am-12 pm each Saturday until August 30.

Those locations are beside Holiday Travel Park on the corner of Coast Guard Rd & Reed Dr and beside Bert's Surf Shop (Hwy 58 closest to The Bridge) on the corner of Emerald Dr & Islander Dr.
