The heat this week did not keep pavers from finishing up a much anticipated project.
Contractors are still working hard on the Neuse Boulevard paving project. Officials say they are about 80% done with the job.
On Friday, they worked in very hot temperatures to complete the area around Racetrack Road and near Bosch.
"Asphalt temperatures are 300 degrees," explains Resident Engineer Brad McMannen with the DOT. "So around the paver it's a lot hotter there than just working outside. It's hot and it's not the ideal job to do, but somebody has to do it."
The DOT says contractors are still on schedule to finish the project before the end of October.
The $1.68 million renovation was delayed several times, so they say folks are happy to see the work getting done.
