An elderly Nebraska woman was killed after a lunchtime accident Friday in Jacksonville.
Police say Melba Cornelius of Wymore, Nebraska died in the crash at Western Boulevard and Gum Branch Road around 12:15 p.m.
The 69-year-old woman was a passenger in a passenger car that was heading west of Western Boulevard. Police say her husband, 74-year-old Larry Cornelius, was driving the vehicle and entered the intersection against the red light.
The Nebraska man's vehicle was struck by an SUV driven by Wesley Brand of Onslow County. Police say the SUV struck the car on the passenger side.
Brand and his wife were taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital. He was treated while she is in good condition. Larry Cornelius was airlifted to another hospital, according to police.
Police say the fatal accident remains under investigation.
