National Night Out Activities Throughout The East

National Night Out activities will be taking place Tuesday nationwide and in neighborhoods throughout the east.

It is an annual event that happens on the first Tuesday of August which aims to raise awareness about crime prevention, strengthen local neighborhoods, and bring law enforcement and communities together.

Greenville will be celebrating its 31st annual NNO. The Greenville Police Department, along with the community, will host a series of events throughout the city.

In Uptown Greenville, there will be activities including a hula hoop competition, a misting tent and a food truck festival. The 3rd Street Community Center will have a cookout and bouncy houses. Those who enjoy video games can play them in the video game truck that will be on site at Dream Park. These events will start at 5 p.m.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office will be holding NNO at both the Grimesland Fire Department and the Bell Arthur Fire Department from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each location will feature exhibits and interactive activities, including one where you could explore emergency vehicles. Additional activities include face painting and cornhole games.

The New Bern Police Department along with the city's fire department and several other organizations will join in the festivities. The communities they are scheduled to visit include Pleasant Hill, New Bern Utilities and Carolina Colours. The start times for these events vary from 5 p.m. to about 7:30 p.m.

At Riverwalk Crossing Park in downtown Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Police Department will host activities from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Over in Havelock, activities will begin 5 p.m at Walter B. Jones Park. Nantucket and country music artist Erin Nenni are scheduled to perform.

While most NNO activities will go on as planned Tuesday, one town will not be participating until a later date. Because of the potential for bad weather, Atlantic Beach is rescheduling its National Night Out for Saturday, August 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those attractions will take place at the Atlantic Beach Town Park.

At many of the locations participating in NNO Tuesday, officers will be at hand to answer questions and provide information.

All activities are free to participate in.
