NWS: Wacky Weather Normal Climate Fluctuations

We've seen temperatures near 80, we've had sleet, freezing rain, snow, and thunderstorms all in just the first month of 2013, which may make you wonder what that means for the spring.

Temperatures were more winter-like on Friday compared to the readings into the 70's just a few days ago. However, Chris Collins, the senior forecaster at the Newport National Weather Service office says it's typical weather for the region.

Collins says while you can not forecast based on prior weather patterns in the months before, he does say that mid March through early June will be the time for severe weather. Collins says, "The thing about is we are kind of in a neutral state. We don't have an El Nino or a La Nina, so were just having the normal climate fluctations we have this time of year."
