About 78,000 customers remain without power as North Carolina continues to recover from a winter storm that dumped snow, sleet and up to a half-inch of ice in some areas.
A Duke Energy online map shows that more than 65,000 customers are still without power. Most of those are in Alamance County, where almost 40,000 customers don't have electricity, and Randolph, where more than 13,000 are without power. Orange County has more than 6,500 Duke Energy customers without power.
The company estimates power will be restored in those three counties by Wednesday night.
About 12,000 customers who get their power from North Carolina electric cooperatives are in the dark today, while EnergyUnited reports fewer than 1,00 outages, most of them in Davidson County.
