A moped rider is dead following an accident with an suv that struck his bike.
That’s according to a report in the Jacksonville Daily News. Citing the Highway Patrol, the report says that 42-year-old Johnnie Jones Jr. of Jacksonville was riding west on NC-53 around 3:15 p.m. Friday, when he turned left onto Edwards Road. At the same time, a 2003 Ford Excursion was trying to pass and struck Jones.
The paper says that the suv driver, 36-year-old Adam Locklear, has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and improper passing. Locklear was given a $2,000 bond.
Jones died at Onslow County Memorial Hospital around 4:46 p.m. Friday.
