Goldsboro.Bookoo.com awards scholarship to local military wife.
Elizabeth Ramos of Goldsboro received the $1,000 "Stars and Stripes Scholarship" to use towards her ongoing education at Wayne Community College. Ramos, who's husband, Jeremias, is a senior Airman with The U.S. Air Force based At Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, is studying to become a dental assistant.
Bookoo, the online yard sale, raises money to help active duty military members and their spouses obtaining scholarships to further their college educations.
According to the press release, scholarships have helped the Bookoo team personally gain momentum for a college education, and the company decided it wanted to help others do the same.
They say the website, which started in 2004, grew rapidly because of word-of-mouth, especially thanks to military families.
According to the release, the company launched the scholarship program and is also donating $5,000 to Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit that provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of service members and Wounded Warriors.
