McCrory Team Leading Next NC Government Reform Study

North Carolina state leaders are once again embarking on a top-to-bottom review of state government.

The General Assembly last summer gave Gov. Pat McCrory's administration $4 million to hire a consultant for the North Carolina Government Efficiency and Reform initiative and report back findings early next year.

Looking for budget savings and better methods is a common mantra of elected officials and department heads. The government reform concept is most important to McCrory, who came into office after a campaign in which he called state government "broken."

Sen. Fletcher Hartsell of Concord is a veteran legislator who leads a separate committee that examines government efficiency and performance. He says the important question will be whether there's enough will to implement good but difficult recommendations.
