Man Charged With "Going Armed To The Terror Of The Public"

A Carteret County man is accused of firing multiple shots at a passing vehicle and two neighboring homes Sunday night.

John Nesi, Jr. is charged with going armed to the terror of the public, discharging a weapon into a moving vehicle, injury to real property, injury to personal property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of discharging a weapon into a residence, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Deputies say they were called to Nesi's home on Highway 101 outside of Newport around 9:40 p.m. Relatives told deputies that Nesi was intoxicated and they were able to get the weapons away from him before officers arrived.

Deputies recovered eight fired .40 caliber rounds in addition to the weapon reported stolen in 2009, along with a shotgun and eleven discharged shotgun shells. Numerous other weapons were also seized from the man's home.

The 47-year-old Nesi is jailed on a $200,000 bond.
