According to Highway Patrol, a 32-year-old man died Friday, July 4th, around 11 p.m. when he struck a utility pole.
Troopers say Kelsie Applewhite was traveling south on Conetoe Rd. coming out of Edgecombe County when he ran off the road to the right, struck a tree, a fence, then overturned and struck a utility pole. Officials say he died on the scene.
Alcohol and speeding were a factor, according to authorities. They say Applewhite was driving over 100 miles per hour.
No one else was involved or injured in the crash.
