Ex-Girlfriend In Court For Attempted Murder In Car Attack

FIRST ON WITN: Police Say Man Pinned After Woman Drove Car Into Motel

A woman accused of trying to kill her ex-boyfriend with a vehicle appeared this morning before a Pitt County judge.

Shameika Smith made her first appearance on attempted murder charges at the Pitt County Detention Center.

Greenville police arrested Smith on Wednesday after they say she pinned her boyfriend, Joshua Pearson, between a car and a wall at the Camelot Inn on March 6th.

Judge Galen Braddy said if found guilty, Smith could serve a lifetime prison sentence on the attempted murder charge alone. Her bond of $200,000 was not modified.

The victim's parents told WITN that Pearson had to be put back on a ventilator after an attempt to take him off did not work.

The victim's sister told WITN he lost his right leg, has several broken ribs and his pelvis was broken from the incident.

Pearson's parents said he had just completed work for his welding certificate degree and enrolled at Pitt Community College.

The Pearson's added that their son and Smith had been dating on and off again for the last two years, but had known each other since kindergarten.

Smith's next appearance in court is set for late March.
