For the second time in less than a week, we have news of a local tax preparer, accused of cheating the government; in this case though, the suspect has pleaded guilty.
Delane Alston of Rocky Mount is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in federal court to two counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false federal income tax returns. Alston worked at P & A Tax Services in Rocky Mount, and then managed the branch in spring hope. Alston pleaded guilty to preparing false 2008-2010 tax returns for P & A Tax Services' clients.
Last week, another tax preparer from Rocky Mount was charged with preparing false state tax returns for clients.
